Our Interventional Pulmonology Program offers advanced, minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment options for thoracic abnormalities and pulmonary disease. As part of the Chest Clinic, we provide care for lung cancer, airway disease, and pleural effusions, and advanced treatments for benign lung diseases like emphysema and asthma.
Our 3D imaging service for CT airway assessment focuses on evaluating tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). By capturing and comparing airway dimensions during inspiration and expiration, we can assess airway collapse and air expulsion efficiency. This method is useful for diagnosing TBM severity by revealing the degree of airway obstruction. The approach includes measuring lung volumes and airway diameters, particularly of the mainstem bronchi, under different respiratory conditions. These measurements are useful for identifying areas of narrowing or collapse and understanding the dynamic changes in the airway during breathing cycles.
Additionally, we provide expiratory luminal fly-through movies, offering real-time visualization of the airways during expiration. This technique highlights areas of collapse, allowing clinicians to assess the extent of the condition accurately. These visualizations may aid in determining the most appropriate management strategy for patients with TBM.
