Our Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Program is one of the most successful in the U.S. We have earned national recognition for transplant outcomes and survival rates while improving our patients’ quality of life. In 1960, Stanford Health Care performed California’s first kidney transplant. We continue to lead the standard of care, pioneering new treatment methods to use before, during, and after transplantation.

The LRD Kidney service utilizes 3D imaging to aid surgeons in assessing the suitability of potential kidney donors. The imaging provided encompasses a wide array of areas crucial for donor evaluation, including the presence and location of accessory renal arteries, prehilar renal artery branching, intrinsic renal artery disease, aortic disease, and variations in the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) and renal veins. Additionally, it aids in identifying ureteral abnormalities, intrarenal masses, and the location of renal or ureteral calculi.
The provided images offer an assessment of kidney lengths, cortical and parenchyma volumes, which are important for determining the overall health and functionality of the donor's kidneys. By offering insights into these specific aspects, our service aims to enhance the ability of healthcare professionals to make informed decisions regarding the viability of kidneys for donation.
