Our Prostate service assists prostate cancer diagnosis by integrating MRI delineation with real-time ultrasound during biopsies. The process starts with an MRI scan to map the prostate and identify suspicious lesions, especially for men with elevated PSA levels or abnormalities detected in a Digital Rectal Exam (DRE). AI is used to outline the prostate and lesions, which are then refined by technologists and reviewed by radiologists.
The resulting dataset, including lesion information and the PI-RADS score, guides transrectal biopsies with real-time ultrasound fusion, allowing precise targeting of MR-identified lesions. Post-biopsy, findings inform cancer management decisions, with the Gleason score determining the aggressiveness of cancer and subsequent treatments like surgery, radiation, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy. The 3DQ Lab also provides 3D prints post-resection to guide prostate cutting for research.
Our 3D Printing Service provides anatomical 3D printed models for surgical planning and education. 3D prints can be requested during the 3D imaging ordering process. To achieve optimal results we require high-resolution CT or MRI scans. Once the scan is obtained, we begin the process by segmenting the medical images to isolate specific anatomical structures. This segmented data is then converted into a 3D model and reviewed by the requestor.
Final models are produced using advanced 3D printing technologies such as Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), and PolyJet. We offer hand delivery for on-site requestors and mail delivery for those at other Stanford locations. Additionally, we are exploring the development of custom cutting guides to assist in surgical procedures.
